Skip the Chalky Chocolate Santas This Year

This is a quick holiday memory—and a gentle nudge for anyone filling stockings this season.

I don’t remember most of what was in my stocking as a kid, but I do remember those chalky chocolate Santas.

You know the ones. Wrapped in foil. Tasting more like sugar and chemicals than actual chocolate.

Meanwhile, just a few steps away in the kitchen, my great-grandma’s caramels were sitting there.

Soft. Buttery. Melt-in-your-mouth good.

The kind my brothers and I would sneak extras of when we thought no one was looking.

And somehow… the chalky Santa still made it into the stocking.

The Treats People Actually Remember

That memory stuck with me—not because it was special, but because it could have been.

The truth is, the little things we give—especially during the holidays—have a way of lasting longer than we expect.

That’s why I’ve always believed stocking stuffers don’t need to be flashy or mass-produced.

They just need to be good.

Really good.

The kind made slowly, by hand, with simple, high-quality ingredients. The kind that feels like it came from someone’s kitchen—because it did.

That’s what I aim for with every batch of our handmade caramels.

They’re soft, never sticky, and made the same way my family has done it since the 1930s. Small-batch caramels that are meant to be shared, remembered, and maybe even snuck a few extra times.

Because when something tastes that good, it tends to disappear quickly.

If you’re putting together stockings this year, consider skipping the candy that gets left behind.

Choose something thoughtful instead—something that feels just a little more personal.

If you’d like, I’d love to help you share that kind of sweetness this season.
